Building with natural clay coating and local wood pergola
In progress construction

A very special architectural project for a beautiful couple who've created a business of local and responsible tourism in south Madagascar.

Together they enable people to have real connections and experiences with the local villagers and culture of Madagascar.

Once we've started to explore the project, we were aligned in finding a solution that would be very versatile, transformable through time and aligned with the concept of circularity. Not fulfilling only one use.

Layout plan for tourism office / one bedroom apartment
Final layout plan

In order to have a design that attends to different types of use and users, it is necessary to fully explore the layout design. That's what we did!

If in the future they desire to move to a new and bigger space, the actual building can be "transformed" into a one bedroom apartment. The plan strategy was thought to have this possibility in order not to "waste" the construction materials or needing to modify.

The new home of @miliba.voyage is aligned with their value of respecting the environment by choosing to create a space that will endure through time, using local and natural materials.

In South Madagascar you cannot find a vast market of materials and possibilities for the construction, which is kind of a good thing to support the local businesses and avoid contamination by long distance transportation.

In the @miliba.voyage project, the client chooses to keep it local, giving priority for natural materials. Reusing existing wood timbers, "artisanal" local bricks and clay coating made with local earth as wall finishings.

Here are some references that inspired the project!

The project is under construction and will be soon ready to be visited it in Fort Dauphin!
