Are we evolved human beings OR should we go back to go forward?

When was the day we've started to build things to perfection, without caring about the left overs or the damage we would do to the existing natural resources?

In my point of view, that's called privilege (and a bit of ignorance). I include myself on it.

It's incredible how we get used so easily to design things that look beautiful without questioning where does it comes from, who builds it, how and if we really need it.

Experiencing a different reality it's not only making me more grateful about the things I have but also making me ashamed of how I've been using it.

Do I really need all of this? All new, perfect and trendy?

What am I offering and defending to my clients?

Isn't my responsibility to inform and raise consciousness about the excessive use of new materials ?

Can't we reuse, recycle or give another place to things before going directly to the NEW option?

Where is all this demolition materials on the construction going? (tons and tons...)

Madagascar is surprising me positively, not because they are aware of sustainability, but because they never got so industrialized, they are not a super developed country, therefore they don't have so much materials offer. They MUST be creative about solutions and economy when BUILDING it's the subject. I feel like we were way more conscious about natural resources before going industrial and global by seeing how they build. Some people say it's evolution, I say its irresponsible evolution.

I was in Antananarivo, going up to a bank staircase when I noticed this beautiful stone/marble tiles made out of small pieces, using even the small leftovers.

(see picture on the right)

I thought that was so beautiful! Why using the perfect entire piece, transporting it carefully away from Italy during days to have it in your project? Also why we are not doing this every where, in every aspect of our lives?

I'm just trying to point out there are so many other ways to do things and being more respectful with the resources we have. There ARE other ways, but we need to GO there.

We are creative human beings and having more money, easy access to some things shouldn't make us discard things so easily, or just pay for it because we can.

I wish to design such things as those stairs and also have clients that support this and are conscious about it. I wish to use my experience not only to buy beautiful things but also to give a second chance and create beautiful things in a circular economy in the construction sector.

Can we really call ourselves evolved human beings or should we go back in order to go forward?
